The steps to make your book

  • Meeting up

Getting to know you is the single most important aspect of writing your book. So we’d have a relaxed meet-up over a cup of tea - in person if distance allows - to chat through the process of working together and leave you with a few questions you can think about before our next meeting.

  • Interviews

Wherever you live in the world, we would love to tell your story. These days, distance is no problem - we can interview you on Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. If you happen to live near London or Bristol, in the UK, we would mix interviewing you in person and online. And of course if you live further away in the UK, but would prefer to meet face to face, we would be delighted to do so, charging travel expenses and time at cost. Typical interview sessions are 1-1.5 hours long, usually held weekly at a time to suit you. We find this works well for most people. For the Time Traveller style of book there are five hours of interviews. For the Arc style there are up to 12 hours of interviews. For the Snapshots style there are three hours of interviews.

  • Writing & Editing

We start writing and editing as your interviews progress. For Time Traveller or the short Snapshots books, either Ibby or Sophia would interview you and lead the writing process, while the other edits. For the more complex Arc books, we find that interviewing, writing and editing together works best. This is very much a collaborative process, so we will send you drafts as we go, for your feedback and approval.

  • Print & Delivery

Now all that remains is to get the approved version professionally printed and the books delivered to your door.

  • Overall Timing

There are some timing variables, including your availability, but in most cases, from your first interview to receiving the printed copies of your book takes around four months for a Time Traveller book, six to seven months for an Arc book and three months for a Snapshots book.
